Character: Otabek Altin
Age: 18
Canon: Yuri!!! On Ice
Canon Point: Episode 12; following Yuri Plisetsky's free skate
Background: here
Personality:
At first glance, Otabek Altin looks like your stereotypical bad boy. He has a tough haircut, he wears a leather jacket, he drives a motorcycle. You would not expect anyone like him to be a figure skater capable of competing on the world stage. But that's sort of the point now. When Otabek was younger and had just entered the Junior skating division, he participated in a Russian skating training camp. Unable to keep up with the skills of the Russian skaters his age, Otabek was transferred to a younger, novice skating class. It was there that Otabek decided to not continue with ballet training and to do something else with his training.
Otabek knows that there's no right way to do everything. Knowing that traditional dance training for skating would only hamper him instead of allowing him to grow to his full potential, Otabek decides that in order for him to succeed, he has to create his own path. His determination to play the game by his own rules is what helps him grow. Wanting to be the best he can be, Otabek even decides to train internationally, traveling from Russia to America to Canada before finally being able to travel back home to Almaty, Kazakhstan and continue his training there.
He normally comes across as stoic and standoffish, and that's true to an extent. When first introduced, Otabek is seen at a press conference following his third place finish at Worlds with a rather pained look on his face. Later, when seen again, he rebuffs J.J.'s invitation to join him and the others for dinner. Otabek is actually rather quiet and stoic. It's part of what makes his skating so powerful, as he fully expresses himself on the ice. Furthermore, Otabek is quite introverted, preferring to spend his free time by himself than in the company of other skaters. He even dislikes using social media, maintaining only the faintest presence online.
It's this tendency to remain aloof from everyone else that makes his decision to reach out to Yuri Plisetsky so powerful. After rescuing Yuri from a pack of his crazed fans, Otabek talks to Yuri, telling him that it was watching him in the novice skating class all those years ago that inspired him to find his own path. Otabek offers his friendship to Yuri, and is demonstrably happy when he accepts. Otabek feels that he and Yuri have a lot in common and he is instantly supportive of his new friend, not even minding all that much when Yuri's free skate program effectively eliminates him from placing in the Gran Prix Finals. Instead, he applauds for Yuri, showing a fond look as Yuri finishes his routine.
This, in essence, is who Otabek is at his core. He has the capability for remarkable kindness. It just hides behind that moody look on his face that often appears on his face when around way too many people.
Abilities: Otabek is a world class figure skater. On the side, he likes to DJ. Asides from that, he's pretty normal.
Alignment: Thras; There's a lot to be said about Otabek, but the fact that he's willing to eschew from traditional figure skating norms to play the game by his own rules means that there's a lot of bravery there.

This was fine, everything was just fine.
Otabek is quiet as he walks into the skating rink, the sounds of his footsteps echoing slightly. He's kept an eye on the others, noting when they were most likely to come to the rink to skate. It's not that he's actively trying to avoid (mostly) everyone. It's more that he'd rather skate on his own right now. He needs the time away. Otabek knows why they want to spend time together, and he's fine with that. But sometimes a man just needs time to be alone with his own thoughts.
Once laced up in his skates, Otabek takes a deep breath as he pushes himself across the ice. He starts slow, choosing to only just skate small laps around the rink. The only sound that can be heard is his skates moving on top the ice. It's nice. Otabek feels the corners of his lips tug upwards as he keeps skating. In his head, a beat begins to play, something bass heavy and uptempo. He increases his speed to match the tempo.
With a loud exhale, he jumps.
Single flip.
Something simple. There's no pressing need to do anything more than that right now. No, it's just him and the ice right now. He feels good and there's a slight light that's just starting to shine. It's warm across his face, like a sunset. He's glad he's alone right now, no one else really needs to see this right now.
Another jump.
Double salchow.
The light shines brighter.
